Hometown Heros

The Town of Knox along with other local organizations, families and friends of veterans will be initiating a Hometown Heroes banner program for Knox veterans. The banner program recognizes all branches of the military and will honor those who have served in the past and present.
The banners will be 30”x60” and will be mounted on utility poles for display throughout the Hamlet of Knox. The Banners will hang for public viewing on the poles from Memorial Day through Veteran's day.  Each banner will be double sided, proudly displaying a picture of the veteran, years of service, rank and where he or she served.

Families, organizations or businesses may sponsor a banner for $130.00.  This fee goes directly to the cost of producing each banner. If you do not know a local veteran, but would like to sponsor a banner, the committee will pair you with an eligible honoree.   The banners will be taken down shortly after Veteran’s Day in a closing ceremony and be returned to each sponsor to keep.  Each year, we will ask for new veteran nominees and sponsors to continue growing our program and give each Veteran the opportunity to be proudly honored with a banner in our town.
To nominate and sponsor a Veteran, they must be a current or former resident of the Town of Knox, serving actively in any branch of the military or be a military veteran with honorable discharge. Please complete the Hometown Heroes application and include a high-quality photo.  Original photos will be returned to the sponsor completing the application. Application packets will also include the option to complete a biography of the honoree.  All names of honorees along with their biography (if completed) will be displayed on the Hometown Hero page on our website. Applications may be mailed to the Town Clerk, Hometown Heroes Banner Program, P.O. Box 116, Knox, New York 12107.  Applications may also be submitted via email to clerk@knoxny.org, or dropped off to the clerk during office hours at the Town Hall. Payments can be made by check or cash.  Applications will be processed after payment is received. Please make checks payable to the Town of Knox.

The deadline for submitting applications is April 30, 2019.  Please contact Traci Schanz, Town Clerk should you have any questions. Once your application is accepted, you will then be contacted by the printing company to verify the accuracy of all information.
